Zion National Park and Coral Pink Sand Dunes

So this part of the field trip was much more interesting than the first and not necessarily because of the Geology although the rocks are a lot prettier down south. Our first night was spent in Zion National Park at the Watchman's Campground (See the picture). It was soooo hot and dusty! We were near the Virgin River which is apparently got its name because it is so silty nobody can see her bottom. It was Our campground had signs saying to not leave any food in your tents. Well one guy in my tent for some reason thought it was for cougars and didn't take heed. So we left on our trip for the afternoon and came back and our tent had been attacked by squirrels! They chewed a hole through the bottom of the tent and came and feasted on his graham crackers and saltines. So that was that. One of the signs posted also said a deer bit a kid in the neck, so watch out for that when you head south. How embarassing would it be to say a deer bit you. Then that night while we were eating dinner a pack of streakers ran past our campground. The funny thing was that we really couldn't tell what was going on so their streak was a waste. We thought it would have been funny to put up a trip wire for them. The next day the same guy that caused the squirrel incident got stung by a hornet, then that afternoon he stood on an ant hill and had ants all over his leg. I began calling him Murphy at this point (Murphy's law: Anything that can go wrong will. A corollary to that is that Murphy was an optimist). But for geology we went to Zion and then to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. Then we drove on to Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef.
